About "Lord of Dance" Natraja

Nataraja is often depicted through the idol. His posture and artwork are described in many Hindu texts such as Anshumaddid Agma and Uttarkamka Agama. The idol of Nataraja is usually made in bronze. But in many places it has been found made of stone as Ellora caves and Badami caves.

The detail of Nataraja artwork has been variously interpreted by Indian scholars. Nataraja is a well-known sculptural symbol in India and is considered a symbol of Indian culture, especially as one of the finest paintings of Hindu art.

History of Lord Shiva Nataraja

One of the earliest known Nataraja artifacts in the archaeological site in the village of Easapat in Odisha, including an inscription. The Asanpet inscription also mentions a Shiva temple in the Saiyankaryas kingdom.

Stones depicting the classical form of Nataraja are found in many cave temples in India such as Ellora Caves (Maharashtra), Elephanta Caves and Badami Caves (Karnataka) around the 6th century.

Nataraja is on all sides and in that fire Lord Shiva holds one dwarf demon with one leg which is considered a symbol of ignorance and the other leg is raised upwards in dance posture.

The voice of Damru is very much liked by Lord Shiva, in the form of Natraj's key, Shiva has held Damru in his right hand which is raised in his right hand, the voice of Damru is considered a symbol of creation. And there is fire in the left hand raised over them which symbolizes the destruction.

This means that Lord Shiva builds with one hand and destroys with one hand. His second right hand is raised in the dance posture as a blessing, so that his blessings protect us from evil.

The second wave of Nataraja which is raised upwards represents salvation and the second left hand pointing towards that feet suggests walking on the path of salvation. If we look closely, this whole idol of him looks like the form of 4.
